Watershed Coordinator’s Report

Andy McAllister

 

 

Background:

B.S. (double major) Marine Science and Biology with a minor in Chemistry.  Over twenty years of experience in Aquatic Macroinvertebrate sampling, taxonomy, ecology, aquatic chemistry, and habitat analysis throughout the Eastern half of the U.S. and abroad for sites impacted by AMD as well as by other forms of NPS pollution.  Immediately prior to coming on board at WPCAMR, I had spent four years as the Bear Creek project manager:  initiating, coordinating, and arranging funding for passive treatment system to be placed in northern Dauphin County.  Other special interests and experience involves stormwater bmps and rain garden plantings using native vegetation.

 

Meeting and Tour of AMD Sites:

Attended the Mining Reclamation Advisory Board (MRAB) meeting in July in California  along with Bruce and Jeff.  Also participated in the tour of local AMD sites the next day with Board members. 

 

Loyalhanna Watershed Association:

Attended a tour of the Friedline Mine Remediation project site with Bruce and Jeff and discussed needs for future maintenance of the system with the watershed association director.

 

2006 AMD Conference

Continued working with Bruce and Jeff on details for this year’s conference.  Drafted and sent out introduction and quarterly meeting letter and made personal calls to invite CD Watershed Specialists to the conference.

 

Quarterly meeting notice:

Called Conservation District managers and watershed specialists to determine attendance at quarterly meeting on August 10th.
